Mesothelioma - The Asbestos Factor

by Richard H Ealom

INTRODUCTION: Mesothelioma is a kind of cancer that is most always brought on by previous exposure to asbestos. Nearly all people who develop it have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles or dust, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre in other ways, such as by washing the garments of a member of the family who worked with asbestos.

It is a serious disease with an average survival time of only 1 to 2 years after diagnosis. Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking. The disease occurs more often in men than in women and risk increases with age, but this disease can appear in either men or women at any age. It is also known to occur in those who are genetically pre-disposed to it.

SYMPTOMS: It may not appear until 20 to 50 yrs after exposure to asbestos. Diagnosing it is usually difficult, because the symptoms are like those of a number of other conditions. These symptoms include shortness of breath due to pleural effusion (fluid between the lungs and the chest wall) or pain of the chest wall, and more generalized symptoms such as weight loss.

Signs of mesothelioma may also include abdominal pain, ascites, or an unusual buildup of fluid in the abdomenal mass in the abdomen, bowel function problems. Other signs of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and high body temperature.

If the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, signs may include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.

In severe cases of the disease, the following signs may be present: blood clots in the veins, which may lead to thrombophlebitis, disseminated intravascular coagulation, a situation causing severe bleeding in many body organs, jaundice, or yellowing of the eyes and skin, low blood sugar level, pleural effusion, pulmonary emboli, or blood clots in the arteries of the lungs, severe ascites. These symptoms may be brought about by mesothelioma or by other, less serious diseases.

TREATMENT: There are number of types of treatment options available: Radiation, Surgery, and chemotherapy including newly approved medications. Despite treatment with chemotherapy, radiation therapy and sometimes surgery, the disease has a poor prognosis. For those with localized disease, and who can tolerate a radical surgery, radiation is usually given post-operatively as a consolidative treatment.

Although the cancer is usually resistant to curative treatment with radiotherapy alone, palliative treatment regimens are sometimes used to relieve symptoms caused by tumor growth, such as obstruction of a major blood vessel. In February 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved pemetrexed (brand name Alimta) for treating malignant pleural mesothelioma.

CONCLUSION: Mesothelioma is a kind of cancer that is most often caused by previous exposure to asbestos. If it affects the pleura it can cause these signs and symptoms: pain in the chest wall, pleural effusion, or fluid surrounding the lungs, shortness of breath, fatigue or anemia, wheezing, hoarseness or cough, blood in the sputum (fluid) coughed up (hemoptysis).

It is described as localized if the disease is found only on the membrane surface where it began. Screening tests might diagnose it earlier than conventional methods thus raising the survival prospects for patients.

The processes leading to the development of peritoneal mesothelioma remain unresolved, although it has been proposed that asbestos fibres from the lung are transported to the abdomen and associated organs via the lymphatic system.

It has been suggested that in humans, transport of fibres to the pleura is critical to the pathogenesis of the disease.

Experimental evidence suggests that asbestos acts as a total and complete carcinogen with the development of mesothelioma occurring in sequential stages of initiation and promotion.

Although reported incidence rates have increased in the past 20 years, the disease is still a relatively rare cancer. Incidence of malignant mesothelioma currently ranges from about 7 to 40 per 1,000,000 in industrialized Western nations, depending on the amount of asbestos exposure of the populations during the past several decades.

Between 1973 and 1984, there has been a threefold rise in the diagnosis of pleural mesothelioma in Caucasian men. From 1980 to the late 1990s, the death rate from mesothelioma in the U.S. increased from 2,000 per year to 3,000, with men 4 times more likely to acquire the malignancy than women. These rates may not be accurate, since it is possible that many cases are mis-diagnosed as adenocarcinoma of the lung, which is difficult to separate from mesothelioma.

Working with asbestos is the greatest risk factor for mesothelioma. However, the disease has been reported in some persons without any known exposure to asbestos. In addition to mesothelioma, exposure to asbestos raises the risk of lung cancer, asbestosis (a noncancerous, chronic lung ailment), and other malignancies, such as those of the larynx and kidney.

Smoking modern cigarettes does not appear to raise the risk of developing the disease. The Kent brand of cigarettes used asbestos in its filters for the first few years of production in the 1950s and some cases of mesothelioma are the result.

True Bone Cancer - A Rare type Of Malignancy!

by Richard H Ealom

INTRODUCTION: Real bone cancer (aka primary bone cancer) occurs in over 2,000 americans each year. Cancer that begins in the bone - primary bone cancer - is rare. Early diagnosis and treatment of this malignancy increases the chance of survival. Children and young people are more apt than adults to develop cancer of the bones. In the past, amputation was normal for bone cancer in an arm or leg.

CAUSE: Often, when people have bone cancer, it is caused by cancer that has metastasized ( spread ) from another place in the body to the bones rather than true cancer of bone cells.

TYPES: There are more than 100 types of cancer, and each type is named for the organ or tissue in which it begins. Certain types of cancers are particularly likely to spread to the bones. It is important to note that when these other types of cancer spread to the bone, they are still named for the tissue or organ where they arose and are not termed “bone” cancer.

Many different kinds of cancer are able to spread to the bones. The most common kinds of cancer that spread to the bones are lung, breast, prostate, thyroid, as well as kidney.

There are several types of sarcomas of the bone, depending upon the kind of bone tissue where the tumor developed. The most common types of primary bone cancer are osteosarcoma, Ewing’s sarcoma, and chondrosarcoma. Other, more rare types include fibrosarcoma, malignant giant cell tumor, and chordoma.

SYMPTOMS: The symptoms of bone cancer tend to develop slowly and depend on the type, location, and size of the tumor. Pain is the most frequent symptom of bone cancer and doctors sometimes use radiation therapy to shrink tumors to decrease the pressure, pain or other symptoms they may cause.

TREATMENT: Treatment depends on the form of bone cancer, as well as its location, size and stage. It may involve chemotherapy with multiple drugs as well as radiation therapy and surgery to get rid of the primary tumor.

Treating cancer that has spread to the bones (metastatic cancer) depends on the form of cancer (the tissue where it originated) and the extent of the spread. As with other malignancies, treatment depends on the size, type, location and stage of the cancer, including whether it has metastasized to the lungs or other parts of your body, and your overall health.

Your physician may suggest using radiation therapy at various times during your treatment and for various reasons, such as before surgery to shrink a cancerous growth or after surgery to end the growth of any remaining cancer cells.

A well-coordinated team of physicians - including surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, as well as physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists who are familiar with treating sarcomas - is a must for increasing the chance you’ll be able to have limb-sparing treatment. In some cases, chemotherapy may be the only treatment necessary. More often, physicians use it in conjunction with other treatments, such as surgery or radiation, for better results.

CONCLUSION: In contrast to cancers which have spread to the bone, true bone cancers are tumors that arise from the tissues of the bones. These cancers, called primary bone cancers, are quite rare in comparison to cancers that have spread to the bones.

Pain is the most frequent sign of bone cancer, but sometimes a lump on the bone can be felt through the skin. It is a rare occurence to have a true bone cancer, a tumor that arises from cells that make up the bone.

The treatment and prognosis of the disease depends upon a number of factors including the type and extent of the malignancy, the person’s age and overall basic health. The disease may be treated with surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of them all.

Dont Like Your Nose?

Rhinoplasty

Hey not crazy about your nose? Well change it, more and more people are these days.

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure in which the nose is reshaped. Technological advances mean that plastic surgeons can re-shape almost any part of the body. The top five procedures asked by men in 2007 were nose reshaping, transplant of hair, eyelid surgery, liposuction and breast reduction.

Rhinoplasty (the political correct version of a nose job), nose reduction or nose reshaping is done by removing the skin and completely changing the structure of the nose, including bone and cartilage. There are a number of alternative methods a cosmetic surgeon has available to him to carry out a nose re-shaping procedure. One alternative method is where the skin from the back of the arm is used in place of the skin removed from the nose to allow re-shaping to take place. Where there has been damage to the nose and the condition of the cartilage is serious, Rhinoplasty is considered as a re-constructive procedure.

A survey was carried out on cosmetic surgery in 2005 and the top five procedures carried out on men were nose re-shaping, liposuction, hair transplant, eyelid surgery and breast reduction. Rhinoplasty is no longer just used for someone who needs nose re-shaping owing to an accident of birth but for those wishing to make their appearance more pleasing. Nowadays, men have almost the same options that women do with cosmetic surgery.

However, if you are considering cosmetic nose surgery you should ensure that your surgeon is a certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and that he has good aesthetic abilities. Along with this requirement is the necessity that the nose looks perfectly natural, that there aren’t any external incisions and there’s minimal trauma. There are other considerations as well; for instance, minimal pain and performed under strict standards of safety and hygiene.

Today even teenagers are getting in on the act with more and more having nose jobs to improve their appearance. There is a great deal of improvements that Rhinoplasty can achieve, for instance, straightening a crooked nose or removing a bump even increase or decrease its length.

Many times the nose and jaw line can be enhanced by changing the size of a person’s chin. A smaller or receding chin can set this balance awry, placing a disproportionate emphasis on other features, such as the nose, particularly if this is already large. That is why many nose operations are also followed by reconstructive surgery to the chin, in order to balance the features of the face.

It is worth remembering that a nose job or a face lift won’t necessarily make you beautiful and it probably won’t change how the world feels about you. Some patients request this surgery because they perceive their nose to be either too big or an unattractive shape. If your nose has been broken and the cartilage has constricted is making it difficult or uncomfortable for you to breath. For some people having a symmetrical face only comes as a bonus, for the real benefit is that they can now breath properly again.

Brain Cancer - Can I Catch it?

by Richard H Ealom

INTRODUCTION: Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in patients under the age of 35. Primary brain cancer starts in the brain while Metastatic brain cancer starts elsewhere in the body and moves to the brain. Primary brain cancer rarely spreads past the central nervous system, and death results from uncontrolled tumor growth within the confined space of the skull. Metastatic (spreading) brain cancer indicates advanced disease and has an extremly poor prognosis.

In the United States, the annual incidence of this disease generally is 15 tO 20 cases per 100,000 people. Primary brain tumors account for 50% of intracranial tumors and secondary brain cancer accounts for the remaining cases. The annual incidence of primary brain cancer in children is about 3 per 100,000. Secondary brain cancer occurs in 20 to 30% of patients with metastatic disease and incidences increases with age. In the United States, about 100,000 cases of secondary brain cancer are diagnosed each year.

SYMPTOMS: The symptoms of a brain tumor can vary tremendously from patient to patient. Symptoms usually develop over time and their characteristics depend on the location and size of the tumor. Those caused by a tumor of the meninges (meningioma) depend on which part of the brain is being compressed. They include headaches, as well as problems with eyesight. Symptoms of increasing intracranial pressure plus Nausea,Vomiting, and Headaches are also common symptoms.

TYPES: As previously mentioned above there are 2 types of brain tumors: primary brain tumors that start in the brain and metastatic (secondary) brain tumors that begin with cancer cells that have migrated from other parts of the body to the brain. Each type takes up space in the brain and may cause serious symptoms.

RISKS: Patients with a history of melanoma, lung, breast, colon, or kidney cancer are at risk for secondary brain cancer. Exposure to vinyl chloride is an environmental risk factor for the disease. People who work in these plants or live in close proximity to them have an increased risk for brain cancer. Patients who have received radiation therapy to the head as part of prior treatment for other malignancies are also at an increased risk for new tumors.

Life comes with risk, and no data will ever be perfect. It is simply not possible to rule out every small risk. Also, small risks that require millions of people to be exposed or years of exposure cannot be studied until after a product is on the market and is actually being used by millions of people.

TREATMENT: A histologic examination is essential for determining the appropriate treatment and the correct prognosis. Treatment depends on the age of the patient, the stage of the disease, the type and location of the tumor, and whether the cancer is a primary tumor or brain metastases.

Treatment involves any combination of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Surgery is the treatment of choice for accessible primary brain tumors, when the patient is in good health. The main treatment option for single metastatic tumors is surgical removal, followed by radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy. The treatment plan is developed by the oncology team and the patient. The more knowledge you have, the easier it is to make decisions about your cancer treatment.

CONCLUSION: Brain cancer has a wide variation of symptoms including seizures, sleepiness, confusion, and behavioral changes. There are 2 main types of brain cancer. Drastic and often life-threatening complications can develop. Signs of brain and spinal cord tumors usually develop slowly and worsen with time unless they are treated.

Statistics suggest that brain cancer is not rare and will probably develop in about 20,000 people OR more each year. Those with risk factors such as having a job in an oil refinery, as a chemist, embalmer, or rubber-industry worker show higher occurences of the disease. Some families have several members with the disease, but heredity as a cause has not been proven. Other risk factors such as smoking, radiation exposure, and viral infection (HIV) have been suggested but not proven as a cause for brain cancer. There is no scientific evidence that brain cancer is contagious, caused by head trauma, or by the use cell phone (Yet).

The Fountain Of Youth

by Jen Hopkins

A few months ago, I was sitting in the waiting area of my doctor’s office when a child came up to me. He was maybe eight or nine years old. He looked up at me and in the most annoying tone I’ve ever heard said \”You’re old.\” I’m only fifty, but now, I feel old. After looking in the mirror for what was probably too much time, I decided that I should look into some wrinkle creams. (And how to harm that child…)

I did not want just any product out there. I wanted The Best Wrinkle Cream on the market. First I started asking my friends which wrinkle creams they used. After I got them to admit that they actually USE such products, a few suggested a product sold at the grocery store. The product was decent, but I doubted it was The Best Wrinkle Cream on the market, so I continued my search.

I decided it was going to take some work to find that cream that would be perfect for me. After spending several hours online researching products, I found a wrinkle cream for sale direct from the company that promised amazing results. I bought it and used it every day for quite some time. I think my skin looked younger. But I wasn’t sure. And that was the problem. If I wasn’t sure the product was working, I doubted anyone else would notice the change, either. I needed to find something better.

I did some more research and found a product online that did actually make me look younger. But it worked slowly. I’m old! I don’t have time for a wrinkle cream that’s too slow. I need fast results.

Next I purchased something called “life in a bottle.” It seemed to work overnight. My skin looked great. I felt great. But the results were only temporary. This wasn’t the wrinkle cream for me.

I shelled out more money and bought a Salicylic acid peel. What a disappointment! It was uncomfortable to use, since it kind of felt like it was burning my face. And after using it several times, I still saw no results. Again, this wasn’t the product for me.

Feeling quite defeated, I was about ready to give up. But then I saw an ad on TV for a night wrinkle cream. What did I have to lose? Nothing. I did a little bit of research about it, and then bought it. And wow, my skin has never felt this good. I look in the mirror and now think I look as young as I feel. Other people have noticed, too. Even that bratty little boy at the doctor’s office didn’t recognize me the next time I saw him!

I am glad that I did my research and tried out several products. I am very happy with the cream that I chose in the end. I feel like a brand NEW (not old!) woman!

Eczema - “The Itch That Rashes

by Richard H Ealom

INTRODUCTION: Eczema is a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the upper layers of the skin and often comes and goes in cycles, meaning that at some times of the year sufferers are able to feel normal, while at other times they will distance themselves from social contact. Diagnosis is generally based on the appearance of inflamed, itchy skin in sensitive areas such as face, chest and other skin crease areas.

It is sometimes called the “the itch that rashes,” since the itch, when scratched, causes the appearance of a rash. It can occur on practically any part of the body; however, in infants, it usually occurs on the forehead, cheeks, forearms, legs, scalp, and neck. Outbreaks can often be avoided by taking simple precautions.

DERMATITIS: One of the most common forms of eczema is atopic dermatitis (or “atopic eczema”). There are several different types, but the one people usually mean when they say eczema is atopic dermatitis. In general,it will come and go, often based on external factors.

It is a chronic skin disorder characterized by itching rashes, which may be red, scaly, dry, or leathery. It is not yet known what causes it, but it does seem to run in families that have a history of asthma, allergies or atopic dermatitis.

Some herbs, such as chamomile, are known to cause allergic contact dermatitis. It is a chronic disease, but only about a third of children with it will continue to have problems as they get older. In atopic dermatitis it is typical for there to be episodes of calm mixed with flares ups of eczema. It’s the most common kind of eczema.

TREATMENT: Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Another option is to try bathing using colloidal oatmeal baths. Other than direct treatments of the symptoms, no cure is presently known for most types of dermatitis; even cortisone and immuno-modulation may often have only minor effects on what may be a complex problem.

These applications are often most effective when applied immediately after bathing (within three minutes is a routine recommendation) so that the moisture from the bath is “locked in”. Tar applications and photo-therapy are also used and can have good effects; however, tar can be messy.

While there are a lot of therapies, it isn’t always easy to find the one that works for you. Patients with eczema can be treated, but traditional therapies often don’t help a pain which is more than skin deep. The primary treatments are aimed at controlling and preventing inflammation and itching including avoiding triggers, frequent bathing and hydration of the skin, liberal use of moisturizers and lubricants, and the use of steroid creams for flare ups.

With numerous treatments on the market, it’s critical to be well informed when making decisions with your doctor. The natural human desire to scratch or rub an itchy rash just makes the condition worse, and treatments can be slow and are not always completely effective.

CONCLUSION: Eczema is a general term covering various inflamed skin conditions and happens in both children and adults, but most frequently appears in infancy. It is an allergic reaction that affects the skin. Also known as dermatitis it can be exacerbated by dry skin. It is not contagious but as with many diseases, currently cannot be cured.

The National Institutes of Health estimates that 15 million people in the United States have some form of this disease. About 10 percent to 20 percent of all infants have it; however, in nearly half of these children, the disease will improve greatly by the time they are between five and 15 years of age.

Since dermatitis is usually dry and itchy, the most common treatment is the use of lotions or creams to keep the skin as moist as possible. One of the most important parts of a treatment routine is to prevent scratching.

Finally, in cases where eczema is resistant to therapy, your physician may prescribe the drug cyclosporine A, which modifies immune response; however, this is used only in extreme cases because of its association with serious side effects.

High Blood Pressure - 65,000,000 Americans Have It!

by Richard H Ealom

INTRODUCTION: High blood pressure also known as hypertension means abnormally high pressure (tension) in your arteries. It does not mean excessive tension caused by emotions, although emotional tension and stress can temporarily raise blood pressure.

Hypertension often has no symptoms, but it can produce serious problems such as stroke, heart failure, heart attack and kidney failure.

It forces the heart to work much harder and can damage the arteries, causing them to narrow faster. It can also harm many parts of the body and is a major health problem in the US affecting 1/3 of Americans or 65 million persons, according to the American Heart Association (AHA).

HYPERTENSION: Most commonly referred to as “high blood pressure”, HTN or HPN, is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated and is considered to be present when a person’s systolic blood pressure is consistently 140 mmHg or greater, and/or their diastolic blood pressure is consistently 90 mmHg or greater.

It can be categorized as either essential (primary) or secondary and is one of the most frequent occuring complex disorders, with genetic implication averaging 30 percent. Hypertension can be a short term or lifelong disease, depending on the cause and is dangerous because it forces the heart to work extra hard.

Pre-hypertension is blood pressure between 120 and 139 for the high number, or between 80 and 89 for the low number. For example, blood pressure readings of 138/82, 128/89, or 130/86 are all in the pre-hypertension area. If your blood pressure is in the pre-hypertension area, it is more likely that you will develop high blood pressure unless you take preventative action. If you have this kind of hypertension, it may not be necessary to take medication.

HEART: Some people may not find out they have high blood pressure until they have problems with their heart, brain, or kidneys. If it is not found and treated, it can cause the heart to grow larger, which can lead to heart failure. With high blood pressure, the heart works much harder, your arteries take a beating, and your odds of a stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems are increased.

If you don’t have elevated blood pressure by age 55, you have a 90 percent risk of developing it at sometime during your lifetime, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Left uncared for, it will cause the heart to eventually overwork itself to the point at which serious damage can take place. About half of persons having first-time heart attacks and 2/3 of people having first-time strokes suffer from elevated blood pressure.

It has been shown that laughing heartily 100 times each day gives the same heart benefits as working out for 20 minutes?

TREATMENT: Treatment is focused on lowering water retention and reducing blood pressure to normal levels. When you first start treatment, your doctor may want you to come to the office regularly. He/she will review the information with you and decide if your treatment program is effective or if you need to make changes to it.

Among the 61 percent who are under going treatment, only 35% have their blood pressure adequately controlled. For specific medical advice, diagnoses, and treatment, see your doctor.

CONCLUSION: Hypertension is called the silent killer because it usually has no symptoms and is a risk factor for heart and kidney disease and stroke. HBP is not evenly distributed throughout the population and occurs disproportionately more often in minority communities.

Hypertension rates are also rising among American children, along with an epidemic of obesity. High blood pressure in adults will usually be measured on at least 2 different doctor visits before a diagnosis is made. It can be treated with both lifestyle changes, normally the first step, and, if needed, with drugs. Diuretics work in the kidney to flush excess water and sodium from the body.

Nearly 1 in 3 American adults has high blood pressure. Once It develops, it usually lasts a lifetime. Fortunately, it can be easily detected, and once you know you have it, you can work with your doctor to control it.

Why Worry About Skin Care?

by Kyle Richey

A lot of people don’t do much more for their skin before going to bed than giving it a quick wipe with a washcloth. We don’t seem to seriously think about how we care for our skin and we think that just because our skin seems to be looking healthy right now, it will automatically stay that way.

Skin care is something that deserves more of our attention than it tends to receive. There is actually quite a lot that can be done to improve the appearance of your skin ” you can prevent wrinkles and breakouts, improve skin tone and more. That is, if you decide to start taking care of your skin and make skin care a regular part of your daily routine.

In some cases, genetics do trump all other factors in the condition of ones skin. In these cases there isnt much that can be done. But many skin problems such as breakouts can be averted by adhering to a skin care regimen. Just make certain that this routine is suited to your skin type and is one that works for the sensitive skin of the face.

Some people go overboard when it comes to skin care and are overly rough or harsh when they cleanse, using soaps and cleansers that are just going to strip their skin of its natural oils and moisturizers. They may do this because they feel that if their skin is breaking out that this means they need to cleanse more or use stronger products. Actually, they could be doing a lot of damage to their skin and even causing these breakouts from cleansing too much. A good skin care routine means using products that are specifically designed for the face, and using them properly.

Moisturizing on a regular basis is also important for proper skin care. Sometimes when a person has oily skin they think they should skip this step but there are many areas on the face that don’t have oil glands on or near them, and these are the places that typically get wrinkles. This includes around the eyes and the mouth.

Again, people with oily skin should moisturize regularly (this cant be stressed strongly enough). Attention should be paid to the non-oil producing areas in particular.

If you choose a light moisturizer and use it daily all over your face, even in the places you consider too oily already, you should notice that your skin becomes more healthy and even.

No skin care regimen can guarantee that you will never have a blemish or develop wrinkles eventually. Both of these things are simply a fact of life. Even the best skin care cant prevent these forever.

A good skin care regimen practiced regularly, however, will keep your skin looking radiant and healthier for a much longer time than if you merely left your skin unattended to. Think of it as exercise for your skin!

Banish those Wrinkles for good

by Nigel James

Who does not want to look younger? Wrinkles on the skin always prevent a person from looking younger. Wrinkles tell us that old age has set in. Taking into consideration the fact that the human body requires the optimum amount of nutrients, it is obvious that a lack of these nutrients or vitamins result in aging of skin and formation of wrinkles.

A well balanced and nutritive diet results in well balanced skin. A wrinkle is a specific crease of skin of the face, caused as a result of old age and lack or essential nutrients. Wrinkles hang loose, thus marring the aesthetics of the skin.

Today, people don’t have enough time for themselves, thus they are unable to pay proper attention towards their skin or their body. A young person has more fat cells as compared to an old person. As a person ages, the number of fat cells in the skin decrease, the skin however continues to grow and sags, thus forming wrinkles.

Daily routines and stresses such as responsibilities & work related tensions, take a toll on the body, with a result the body gets tired and ages. This aging shows on the skin in the form of wrinkles. The skin looses its firmness and tends to sag.

The everyday actions including eating and chewing, subject the skin to a lot of stretching and pulling, making the aging skin succumb to these pressures, resulting in wrinkles. A practical daily schedule in combination with meditation and the right diet optimizes skin texture, thereby reducing or delaying wrinkles.

To counter aging, there is a vast array of beauty products in the market. Sunscreen not only protects your skin as you move around, it also prevents aging that occurs due to harsh weather conditions. Skin cleansers clean the pores that can gather substances that irritate the skin. The dull look of an uneven skin due to dryness can be countered by a moisturizer. Alpha Hydroxyl Acids (AHA) or fruit acids detach dead skin deposited on the surface leaving your skin smooth and glowing. Apart from all these cosmetics, one thing that really helps wrinkles to stay away is facial exercise. Facial exercise keeps the face muscles well toned giving the skin a firmer look and a younger feel.

Scientific research tells us that the rate, at which skin cells renew themselves at young age, slows down with age. This results in uneven and greasy looking skin. Also, due to the decreased water holding capacity of the skin, it loses its plumpness, resulting in wrinkles.

While wrinkles are a natural phenomenon and they will happen eventually, we do have at our disposal a number of remedies at hand that can help curb the development of these wrinkles. All this is possible thanks to the growth and development in medical science. A number of companies have come out with various products that contain DNA and RNA, that are beneficial in combating the growth of wrinkles and delaying the ageing process. Natural proteins such as collagen and elastin are also used widely as they help in rejuvenating the skin. Ceramides are also used to help hydrate the skin, and prevent it from shriveling up due to dryness.
